On view at Blum & Poe is a new exhibition of works, spanning 40 years by New York-based artist March Avery. The exhibition showcases oil paintings, sketches and watercolors, altogether capturing the poetry of everyday life with exceptional emotion and immediacy. The artist focuses on specific elements of a moment and couples shapes, space and color to form unique compositions that push the boundaries of the paper and the canvas. Avery embraces simple forms and masters negative space to push her work towards abstraction. Her paintings portray domestic scenes, such as portraits of friends and family, still lives and landscapes and illustrate the passage of time. In the exhibition, viewers will also find 10 watercolors and sketchbooks, showing further perspective on the artist’s paintings and watercolors.
