YoungArts presents Mark Fleuridor’s “Sunshine” in its first solo exhibition by an emerging artist, with additional programming throughout Miami Art Week. The 2015 YoungArts Winner in Visual Arts, and U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts, shows a collection of multidisciplinary works; quilts, collages, and watercolors juxtapose imagery derived from archival photographs of family, friends, interiors, and tropical plant life. Co-curated by the artist Derrick Adams and YoungArts associate curator Luisa Múnera, the gallery presentation draws inspiration from Fleuridor’s motherland, Haiti, and his upbringing in Miami. Through the creation of abstract environments, the artist centralizes the sun, life cycles, destruction, and birth.
