7 February 2024

On February 8 in Mexico City, Material Art Fair presents its 10th edition at Expo Reforma, on view to the public through February 11. An ardent supporter of contemporary artists throughout the world, Material will debut the works of more than 200 leading-edge creators represented by 73 exhibitors of 18 countries. Alongside partner Del Castillo y Castro Abogados, the second era of Proyectos will be unveiled—a visionary program that offers six organizations from around the country the opportunity to introduce their year-round initiatives to the global art landscape. A parade of vibrant collaborations with forward-thinking brands, including Range Rover, Mezcal Amarás, and Docent, as well as a vivacious satellite events program, will spark vital conversation and community throughout the fair’s lively anniversary.

For the fair’s much-anticipated 10th year, 34 new exhibitors will be inaugurated into the presentation—including Proyecto Caiman (Guadalajara), The RYDER Projects (Madrid), TAP Art Space (Montreal), SISSI club (Marseille), Murmurs (Los Angeles), Galería Nora Fisch, (Buenos Aires), and Galerie Laurent Godin (Paris). On Wednesday, multidisciplinary artist Carlos Amorales proposes the musical extravaganza Fragmented States at the otherworldly Polyforum Siqueiros. An inspired mosaic of 20 dancers, 20 singers, and 20 percussionists—featuring choreographer Priscila Hernández, experimental singer Sarmen Almond, and percussionist Diego Espinosa—illuminates the mythical serpent deity Naga. On Friday evening, Puerto Rican collective Poncili Creación brings a dreamlike fusion of puppetry and performance, titled “Cerebro de Abuela Piel de Piedra,” to Cárcamo de Dolores in tranquil Chapultepec Park.

Dynamic events continue into Saturday night with the Latin American premiere of Untitled (Holding Horizon) at Dr. Erazo 182. The energetic performance by Berlin-based artist and choreographer Alex Baczyński-Jenkins, curated by Michelangelo Miccolis, is a pivotal three-hour spectacle of passion, repression, and deprivation. Later that night, EXT x MATERIAL 10 AÑOS will be unleashed as an epic anniversary soirée at Colonia Doctores with Danish techno legend Schacke alongside musical artists Tommy Hart, AAAA, Sites, Lyo XS, and Deejay Energy. An exclusive cocktail menu provided by Mezcal Amarás raises a toast to the fair’s anniversary edition alongside spectacular bottles created with visionary designers and artists. Within the charismatic Range Rover Lounge designed by Ago Projects, supreme hospitality from Condesa DF hotel of Grupo Habita basks visitors in a lavish space of relaxation, refreshment, and renewal, uplifting an enchanting new era of Material Art Fair.
