Lehmann Maupin is showing “DNA:Study/(Visual:Ear),” an exhibition of new works from McArthur Binion, on view through October 22. The exhibition brings together new paintings from the abstract artist’s recent bodies, DNA and Visual Ear. Binion’s work is known for its connections with both minimalism and conceptualism—diving deep into the movements’ intersections. Repetition is also deeply ingrained in his work, and Binion considers his upbringing in the American South to have been influential in his artistry since then. Binion’s work, with DNA:Study/(Visual:Ear) being no exception, is very geometric, reexploring the minimalism grid, and simultaneously extremely personal to the artist.
