Opening on February 7, Proyectos Monclova debuts a compelling new exhibition by German artist Michael Sailstorfer titled “Clearing,” on view through April 1. In a poetic and immersive installation, the artist explores our complex relationship to nature and culture, while simultaneously engaging all of the senses. In Forst, a revolving tree sheds both leaves and branches—visitors must journey through the destruction to experience the sights, sounds, and smells of this man-made forest. Alongside the exhibition, the gallery will present additional past experiments by the artist: Teppich Zürich 01 (2017), a sweeping tapestry of Swiss police uniforms, that envelops visitors as a comforting blanket all the while provoking searing questions of the powers that be; the Heavy Eyes (2022) paintings, made uniquely of lead and eye shadow, probe into varying shades of heaviness and lightness.
