7 February 2022

ZⓈONAMACO returns to Mexico City this week, open from February 9—13, once again taking place at the Centro Citibanamex. Under the care of Artistic Director Juan Canela, the fair’s 18th edition will welcome 200 galleries from 25 countries, spread across four smaller fairs—ZⓈONAMACO México Arte Contemporáneo, Diseño, Salón, and Foto. Situated within a floor plan by the Netherlands-based Tom Postma Design studio, with help from the local Salinas Lasheras studio, this year’s program will be accompanied by a lineup of talks and other happenings around the city.

Within ZⓈONAMACO México Arte Contemporáneo (encompassing young and mid-career work by global artists, along with historical works of modern art), four sub-sections include a main exhibition floor, the Ejes platform, curated by Direlia Lazo, Sur, which is being overseen by curator Luiza Teixeira de Freitas, and the Arte Moderno platform, under the direction of Esteban King Álvarez. Exhibitors across these sectors include names like P·P·O·W, MARK HACHEM, Smith-Davidson Gallery, Zilberman, YAM Gallery, Morán Morán, NEON GALLERY, Patel Brown, Sé Galería, LGM GALERÍA, Pablo Goebel Fine Arts, and Marlborough.

ZⓈONAMACO Diseño (curated by Cecilia León de la Barra) features a selection of furniture, textiles, jewelry, and other decorative objects new and historical. In the main program, fairgoers will find presentations from the likes of Tana Karei, TRRA, studio davidpompa, CENTRO, Hechizoo, and Mobilier national. Meanwhile, the Emergente sector will see presentations of young designers from exhibitors like Katia Solorzano, CACAO, by axioma, Alan Frank, RES, Sebastián Angeles, and Obra gris.

Then, under the direction of Alfonso Miranda Márquez, those in attendance will find artworks and artifacts predating 1960 on view within ZⓈONAMACO Salón. Featured presenters here include galleries like Muzeion, SAFRA Galería, VIRIATHUS, and MARIO UVENCE ANTIQUES & FINE ARTS. Finally, ZⓈONAMACO Foto encompasses a presentation of photography and video works curated by Sara Hermann. This platform will welcome exhibitors like Gregory Leroy Photographies, Loo & Lou Gallery, Barn Bradenstoke, ALMANAQUE fotográfica, Heart Ego, and Galería Casa Cuadrada.

Fairgoers will also want to look out for talks and happenings like the daily NFT series, “Introduction to CryptoArt,” conversations with names like Ana G. Zambrano, Jesús Alberto Flores, Leonor Antunes, Keyna Eleison, María Wills, Nicholas Baume, and Jo Ying Peng, along with openings and exhibitions taking place in spaces across the city.
