Betye Saar: Serious Moonlight

No contributor

ICA Miami’s “Serious Moonlight” is an exhibition of work by the artist Betye Saar, featuring a series of rarely seen site-specific installations made between 1980 and 1998. An icon of Black feminist art for her works highlighting issues of race and gender through the use of existing objects—such as the 1972 Liberation of Aunt Jemima—Saar’s immersive installations transport viewers into her narratives, which explore ideas of ritual and community. Viewers will experience works like the tarot cards and Vodou flags making up the 1988 House of Fortune, and an exploration of the traditions surrounding death and mourning titled The Ritual Journey.
