Christo Drawings: A Gift from the Maria Bechily and Scott Hodes Collection

Katy Donoghue

28 November 2022

Viewers of the exhibition “Christo Drawings: A Gift from the Maria Bechily and Scott Hodes Collection” will find a broad presentation of drawings and collages by the late artist Christo, which were generously donated by his friends. Curated by María Elena Ortiz, the show is representative of the artist’s collaborative practice, which he shared with his wife, Jeanne-Claude, imagining monumental constructions in public spaces. The featured works are preparatory sketches and mockups that shed light on the process that went into masterful feats like Surrounded Islands Valley Curtain, and The Wall, which saw 13,000 oil barrels used to craft a mountainous wall.
