Janiva Ellis's "Rats" is on view at ICA Miami through September 12. It is the American artist's first solo museum show. Included are new works made over the past year. Ellis references art history and pop culture while challenging white supremacist mythology in her work. Whether through landscape, abstraction, figuration, or even cartoon, she uses human and emotion to convey compelling narratives. "Rats" showcases examples of the artist's latest experiments in the studio around themes of mistakes and infestations.
