January 4, 2021 - December 6, 2020
Founded by Sarah Gavlak in 2018, New Wave Art Wknd (NWAW) launches its third year in Palm Beach today, with a hybrid in-person and virtual model live through December 6. With programming focused on the theme “Art as Activism: The Fight for Equality and Justice,” the three-day event will include virtual public panels, a socially-distanced reveal of the commission from the 2019 New Wave residency, and exclusive programming encompassed in a special VIP sector for donors.
Ranging from collectors, to curators, to artists, featured panelists from all corners of the art world—including names like Miles Greenberg, Deborah Kass, María Magdalena Campos-Pons, Jon Key, Nico Wheadon, Kilolo Luckett, Carmen Hermo, and Jasmine Wahi—will discuss topics like “Women in the Arts: Leading the Way Towards Inclusion,” “The Black Living Archive,” and "Counter Attack: Artists and Curators Creating Change." The conversations roster arranged by Program Director Sarah Haimes will also launch a year-round series of monthly-occurring talks.
Those who are able to travel this weekend should be sure to attend public, in-person happenings like the reveal of the New Wave resident artist Renzo Ortega’s public mural created during his residency last July, United Migrant Familia of America, and Gallery Open Houses at Worth Avenue and the Royal Poinciana Plaza hosted by the art spaces GAVLAK, PACE, Wynn Fine Art, White Cube, Acquavella, Lehmann Maupin, and Paula Cooper.
VIP guests will also have access to tours and previews virtually and in-person, like a look at the reimagined galleries at Beth Rudin DeWoody’s The Bunker Artspace, curated by Laura Dvorkin and Maynard Monroe, studio visits with Estelle Maisonett, Arlene Shechet, and Nate Lewis, a tour of the exhibition "GISELA COLÓN: EXISTENTIAL TIME” led by the artist, and more.
