In a new exhibition of spirited, multidisciplinary paintings, the Toronto-based artist Thrush Holmes depicts lush landscapes and floral still lifes with a poetic, edgy sensibility. In a unique combination of oil, spray paint, and neon, Holmes references the likes of Picasso and Matisse, experimenting and playing with mythology and romanticism. Past works of the self-taught artist reach up to 20 feet in height, employing vibrant color, collage, and the reflective effects of neon lighting to produce highly emotional works of art.
