Woody De Othello returns home for his exhibition of new works, “Coming to Light.”
November 20, 2020 - January 30, 2021
A Miami native, Woody De Othello returns home for his exhibition of new works, “Coming to Light.” Through a selection of figurative paintings and anthropomorphic ceramic vessels, the artist has drawn parallels to the anxiety and alienation of the times through the use of twisted, distorted human forms. Portrayed in vibrant colors, Othello’s subjects are bent over or curled up in frustration and grief, stuck inside their own domestic scenes. The use of two complementary color schemes supports a sense of dual consciousness—the division between our public and private selves—which the tortured figures lay before their viewers like a mirror.
