Michaela Yearwood-Dan: Be Gentle With Me

On view at Marianne Boesky Gallery’s 509 West 24th Street location, Michaela Yearwood-Dan’s “Be Gentle With Me” is a series of new paintings reflecting on the last two years. Reminiscent of botanical habitats, the artist’s lush and lively abstracted works are a platform on which she explores the possibility of creating space for topics like the global pandemic, queer liberation, and the Black Lives Matter movement. Composed of a palette of appealing hues like blues, pinks, greens, and yellows, Yearwood-Dan’s lush and lively paintings often include inscriptions of her own words and poetry—like the words “still break,” which can be found within the textural, gestural markings of the work titled Beyond the veil of the mythical super woman.
