Galleria Raffaella Cortese is currently presenting Jessica Stockholder’s “What is Normal” through August 28.
The solo exhibition features a selection of works made in 2020, a year defined by drastic shifts in the time and space of production due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Without access to her studio, the artist developed a way of working at home, using techniques of folding, sewing, gluing, and cutting.
The American-Canadian artist has always deconstructed and redefined the boundaries of art making, where her consistent experimentation with duality of colors, textures, and materials as well as using synesthesia to create symbiosis between matter and color is apparent throughout her work.
