“The Porcelain Room–Chinese Export Porcelain”

January 30, 2020 - January 10, 2021

Fondazione Prada’s “The Porcelain Room–Chinese Export Porcelain” features more than 1,700 pieces of exported Chinese porcelain made between the 16th and 19th centuries, demonstrating the country’s understanding of the international markets to which they were catering. Part of the foundation’s extensive research into the topic in relation to contemporary art, the exhibition—curated by Jorge Welsh and Luísa Vinhais—takes over the fourth floor of Torre with visual organization by Tom Postma Design. Divided into a three-part display, the show activates a dialogue between contemporary and ancient art, as well as within different cultures, including rare and iconic pieces, like 45 of the 150 remaining “first orders” commissioned from Europe in the early 1500s.
