Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg: The Soft Spot

Gió Marconi is presenting its fourth solo exhibition of Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg, “The Soft Spot.” The Swedish duo works by combining their respective mediums—like stop motion video, sculpture, sound, and large-scale installation—to create one finished product, utilizing playful imagery to look at themes like sexuality, fear, lust, submission, and exploitation. Viewers will find in the exhibition their most recent video work (eponymous to the show), which follows characters like a walrus and a man with multiple arms in a battle of greed over a shiny pearl. Concurrently, the pair has transformed part of the gallery space into an enchanted garden inhabited by a series of flower sculptures, which follow their exploration of flowers’ representational power surrounding ideas like rebirth, modesty, purity, and so on.
