Carol Bove: Vase/Face

October 17, 2022 - December 17, 2022

Opening October 17, is a solo exhibition of artist Carol Bove’s new sculptures: “Vase/Face.” Following successful shows last year at the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Bove introduces the public to her monochrome, sandblasted steel sculptures and colorful wall-mounted creations. The artist’s three-dimensional interpretation of “Rubin’s vase,” an infamous optical illusion introduced by Danish psychologist Edgar Rubin in the early 20th century, examines perception, paradox, and apprehension of form. Mounted sculptures in colorful, matte finishes of pink, yellow, and orange have an almost digital appearance, invoking both modern, industrial products and the late 19th-century paintings of artists such as Paul Gauguin and Pierre Bonnard.
