Château La Coste presents “Moment of Affection”, the British photographer Mary McCartney’s first solo exhibition in France, on view through September 4. The 23 photographs in the show, mostly taken on film with a Leica camera, are organized around two themes: subtle emotions of affection, and rawer expressions of love. The first group features portraits and still lifes, showcasing McCartney’s gift for capturing tenderness in even the most candid moments, as in Family Circle, Sussex, 1999, a color photograph of her father sleeping on a sofa with her baby son. The second group features such kinetic, lively works as Kick Back, New York, 2004, photographs of Royal Ballet dancers preparing behind the scenes.
Speaking on the show, McCartney has said: “I have taken my time, looking through every contact sheet and photograph in my archive to discover ‘Moment of Affection.’ I found simple moments, yet incredibly rich in feelings. And here they are.”
