With The Icelandic Art Center, artist Sigurður Guðjónsson presents a new exhibition, “Perpetual Motion,” at the Pavilion of Iceland as part of the 59th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. Curated by Mónica Bello, the fantastical exhibition is grounded by a large-scale sculpture in combination with moving imagery and a complex soundscape, created by Guðjónsson and Icelandic musician Valgeir Sigurðsso. The artist is known for his compelling time-based artworks, unveiling the elusive components of machinery and technology. Said Guðjónsson, “The artwork is intended as a play on the boundaries between reality and fiction, depicting something that is real but usually beyond our field of perception. My aim is to create a poetic, multisensory experience of materiality that encompasses scale, light, dimension and motion, using sound and video to transform the space in a sculptural way.”
