Suzanne McClelland: MUTE

Marianne Boesky Gallery is showing a selection of paintings from Suzanne McClelland’s “MUTE” series. On view on the first floor of its Aspen location, McClelland’s pieces explore language—from painting and the printed to written and spoken word. “MUTE” is comprised of 26 paintings, one for each letter of the Latin alphabet, that figuratively mute the elemental component of language and allow the letters to melt into the canvas. The works on view deconstruct symbols and structures into abstractions, manifesting an alternate, expressive alphabet and language that cannot be spoken or read, but seen and felt.
