The Lake House on Canandaigua

22 December 2021

A few hours north of New York City is a city named Canandaigua, famed for its part in the Finger Lakes. Coveted for its lakeside resorts and wineries, the destination is a go-to staple for New Yorkers who aim to relax and unwind throughout the year. A premier property of the region is The Lake House on Canandaigua, renowned for its sprawling lakeside land, world-class design, high-quality amenities, and dynamic cultural programming. Featuring 124 guest rooms and suites, the property welcomes visitors to Willowbrook Spa, the Rose Tavern restaurant, the lakeside outlet Sand Bar, a cozy library, a timber frame event barn, an outdoor pool, a year-round hot tub, and a boardwalk with panoramic views of Canandaigua Lake.

Approaching the hotel, guests are greeted by a multi-level white property topped with a charcoal roof and balconies overlooking the lake. Inside, soothing materials and a calm color palette reflect the serene setting, inclusive of clean whites, natural woods, navy, grey, and gold tones. Shiplap walls and nautical artwork complement communal wooden tables, leather sofas, custom wood bed frames, hand-woven bedspreads, natural fiber rugs, and hardwood floors found in many rooms.

In its first phase of development, the family-owned and operated property was designed by Post Company (formerly known as Studio Tack), in collaboration with The Brooklyn Home Company, led by brother-sister developer Bill Caleo and designer Lyndsay Caleo Karol and her husband, the artist Fitzhugh Karol. The Lake House’s redevelopment represents the third generation of family members, reinforcing their commitment to the community and esteemed hospitality and events.

Whitewaller recommends: Looking at the weekly calendar of events and not missing a no-cost yoga class, meditation gathering, or live music performance in the library.
