Thomas Ruff: tableaux chinois

On view at David Zwirner in Paris is an exhibition of recent photographs by Thomas Ruff. The German artist’s ongoing series “tableaux chinois” debuted last fall at a solo show with K20 – Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf. Its title is a tribute to French Icelandic painter Erró whose paintings of the same name in the 1970s featured Pop-infused imagery from Communist China. In this body of work, Ruff continues his exploration of propaganda photography.
