In “The Absence of Mark Manders,” The Dutch artist Mark Manders has presented an exhibition of objects following a longstanding concept he refers to as “Self-Portrait as a Building.” Creating works that replicate the human figure, referencing his own memories and art history, Manders has installed the objects—like a human bust leaned against a chair, or a table acting as a pedestal for a large wood and sculptural work—in settings that interact with the space, treating the building itself as the central work on view.
The special exhibition “Masterpieces of Japanese Art from the End of the 19th Century to the Present” is on view at Museum of Modern Art Tokyo (MOMAT) through September 26.
