The Absence of Mark Manders

In “The Absence of Mark Manders,” The Dutch artist Mark Manders has presented an exhibition of objects following a longstanding concept he refers to as “Self-Portrait as a Building.”

March 20, 2021 - June 20, 2021

In “The Absence of Mark Manders,” The Dutch artist Mark Manders has presented an exhibition of objects following a longstanding concept he refers to as “Self-Portrait as a Building.” Creating works that replicate the human figure, referencing his own memories and art history, Manders has installed the objects—like a human bust leaned against a chair, or a table acting as a pedestal for a large wood and sculptural work—in settings that interact with the space, treating the building itself as the central work on view.
