Jack Shainman Gallery is presenting two concurrent exhibitions of work by the photographer Tyler Mitchell at its Chelsea locations, both open through October 30.
Titled “Dreaming in Real Time,” open at 513 West 20th Street, the gallery is sharing a series of peaceful, dreamy images capturing Black subjects in moments of solitude and belonging in the South. Influenced by Mitchell’s isolation from his family in Georgia during the pandemic, the series features photographs like the intimate embrace in Connective Tissue and two pairs of feet entwined in Nap.
And at 524 West 24th Street, visitors will find the exhibition “I Can Make You Feel Good” expanding on Mitchell’s previous exhibitions of the same name at Amsterdam’s Foam Fotografiemuseum and the International Center of Photography in New York. The artist’s look at ideas of Black utopia placed within the context of the everyday, the latest additions to this series are being presented to the public for the first time.
