Aorist presents CodeX in Venice, a program including an immersive installation by Rafaël Rozendaal in the Annex of the Navy Officer’s Club, the first-ever indoor drone performance by DRIFT hosted at TBA21–Academy's Ocean Space, and an exhibition of Jonas Lund’s participatory series “MVP (Most Valuable Painting)” [2022]. Rozendaal’s “Observation” [2022] utilizes mirrors and screens to transform an intimate space into an infinite, immersive digital world, inviting visitors to reflect upon the subtle and complex forms which emerge from the interplay of simple colors and shadows. DRIFT’s “Social Sacrifice” [2022], examining the dynamics exhibited by a school of fish encountering a predator, will highlight the tension between collective action and individual freedom, and how this tension changes in the presence of external threat. Lund’s “MVP” comprises an online participatory project in which 512 digital paintings will alter and optimize themselves based upon audience engagement data and sales, manifesting the systems of value involved in artmaking and art valuation. These works will render visible the unseen forces which govern our behaviors, our values, and our world, inviting viewers to consider their own influence upon these practices. Each of the works on view is accompanied by a series of NFTs available on the Aorist marketplace.
