Artist Subodh Gupta presents a new installation, “Cooking the world,” during the 59th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia. Curated by art consultant Hervé Mikaeloff, the special project takes place in the Casanova gardens at Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel, in Venice. In homage to collective histories, Gupta welcomes viewers into a “home” constructed from thousands of previously-owned utensils, pots, and pans. Once inside, visitors discover a fully operating kitchen and dining space, where the artist will host an enthralling performance: preparing, cooking, and serving food to delighted guests.
The event marks the launch of MITICO, an artistic series presented by Belmond in partnership with Galleria Continua. The initiative honors four internationally esteemed artists—Indian artist Gupta, Argentinian artist Leandro Erlich, Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto, and Cameroonian artist Pascale Marthine Tayou—as they introduce works that magnify the beauty of Belmond’s gardens throughout Italy, and celebrate art, inclusivity, and community.
