Vivienne Tam fall/winter 2014-15

Let’s Go Back to 1979 With Vivienne Tam

Designer, Vivienne Tam, took inspiration from ancient Chinese cave drawings of Dunhuang, and combined that with a precise nod to late 70s fashion for her latest fall/winter 2014-15 collection premiering at NYFW.  Prints got busy with psychedelic patterns from head to toe, featuring earthy and jewel tones on matching tights, A-line skirts, and even skorts.

We spotted lots of keyholes and full-quarter-sleeves in dresses, all be-decked with skinny fur scarves for added opulence from that particular century. Tam features a lovely boiled wool coat in deep olive green that falls just above the knee, and for luxurious nights on the town she offers a floor length T-neck peasant dress with mandala appliques.

One would imagine that a collection with so many busy patterns – from cave-inspired drawings to full-on psychedelic abstract prints – would be a bit overwhelming and too busy for even the busiest girl, but Tam made it work nicely with this particular collection. The result is a line of wearable, yet standout ensembles that are just groovy.
