Christian Siriano Kicks Off New York Fashion Week
On the eve of New York Fashion Week’s official start, Christian Siriano premiered his otherworldly Fall/Winter 2024 collection at The Plaza Hotel last Thursday. For the 60 looks, the decorated designer was inspired by Frank Herbert’s Dune and subsequent film adaptations—serendipitously timed with the second film’s imminent release next month. But his models weren’t dressed for trudging through sandstorms, nor did the spirit of the looks express wasteland cynicism. Rather, Siriano tried to imagine “what eveningwear and glamour would look like in a sci-fi, apocalyptic desert.”

Christian Siriano’s Dune-Inspired Collection
Against the hotel’s gilded backdrop, rust tones were broken up by dramatic black-and-whites and pops of fiery reds. The models were shrouded in rich metallics, tulle, and sparkling tinsel that echoed a glimmering night sky as much as the sand below. Like much of Siriano’s work, the fall collection emphasized the body, creating shapes and textures that highlighted the form of the wearer.

A Collection that Celebrates Shapes and Curves
From armor-like corsets to soft draping, Siriano’s clothes celebrate the women and men who wear them. Romantic femininity, with sheer lace and grand skirts, was anchored by bolder silhouettes like hooded cloaks and cropped suit jackets. Supermodel Coco Rocha wore two of the show’s most memorable looks: a white gown with a tulle collar and an asymmetrical brown jumpsuit with dramatic sleeves.
Followed by a VIP dinner and after-party at the PUBLIC Hotel, the show’s festive atmosphere featured music by Alicia Solombrino and welcomed celebrity guests Alicia Silverstone, J. Smith Cameron, Melanie Lynskey, Busy Phillips, Sophia Bush, and Ashlee Simpson to its coveted front row.
