IFPDA Fine Art Print Fair 2019 Featuring Swoon and More

Pearl Fontaine

25 October 2019

The 28th annual IFPDA Fine Art Print Fair is currently underway in New York. Now open at the Javits Center’s River Pavilion, the fair will remain on view through Sunday, October 27. The largest and longest-running international art fair to showcase 500 years of printmaking, this year’s edition is under the direction of Helen Toomer and features around 70 exhibitors and a daily program of talks and events.

Fairgoers should be on the lookout for highlights such as a selection of curated projects and spaces—like Swoon’s monumental site-specific installation, a 12-by-24-feet mixed media project that combines etching with two- and three-dimensional elements like silk screening, wood, and paper.

Also be sure to save time for the scheduled discussions surrounding the world of prints, featuring guests like Jeff Koons, Sarah Kirk Hanley, Phil Sanders, and Jim Dine, who will give the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation lecture on Saturday, October 26. Following Dine’s talk, will be a presentation of the 2019 Jordan Schnitzer Awards for Excellence in Printmaking, to be awarded to Mel Bochner and Matthew Day Jackson.

Coming from the U.S. and international locations like Barcelona, Berlin, London, Singapore, Zurich, Paris, and Milan, this year’s exhibitors are showing prints from a range of artists, time periods, and other sectors, including Japanese printmakers, German Expressionist, and Bauhaus movements, modern and contemporary art, and more. Presenters include names like Gallery Neptune & Brown, Mixografia, Hauser & Wirth, Paupers Press, Paragon, The Old Print Shop, Inc., Paulson Fontaine Press, Scholten Japanese Art, STPI, Two Palms, and Marlborough Graphics.
