On view through May 22, Friedman Benda is presenting “iThongo,” a solo exhibition by ceramic artist Andile Dyalvane. Meaning ancestral dreamscape in Xhosa, “iThongo” is an homage to Dyalvane’s ancestors, in which works are arranged to showcase traditional cultural practices. The show is accompanied by a short documentary and catalogue containing academic texts — explaining the spiritual aspects of Dyalvane’s practice, made possible with the support of BMW South Africa.
