Sean Scully

In Ben Brown Fine Arts’s first solo show of the artist Sean Scully, the gallery is presenting seven new paintings that are representative of the Irish artist’s abstract oeuvre, the largest of which measures at almost 63 x 63 inches. On view from May 21 to July 30, visitors at the Hong Kong gallery can expect to find works spanning several of Scully’s series, including a Robe diptych, which sees squares of gray shades and other dulled colors painted onto aluminum; two works from the Landline series featuring earthen bands of color painted horizontally; and four works belonging to the Wall of Light series, in which Scully has employed a palette reminding us of an outdoor scene at golden hour—hues of ochre, sections of green, a hint of peachy pink, and various orangey reds—marking his canvases with a lattice-like pattern made from visible brushstrokes.
