Frieze London opened this week, and with this year’s fair comes a new artists’ initiative implemented by Frieze Projects. For its first installment, the Frieze Art Award has invited emerging French artist Mélanie Matranga to create a site specific piece for the fair in London. The artist, who was recently featured in a group show at Castillo/Corrales entitled “The Issues of Our Time,” has created a video series filmed during the construction of the fair. Called “From A to B through E,” the series centers around an artistic couple, juxtaposing their relationship with each other, the art world, and the world at large through vignettes set in a café designed by Matranga that is now open to visitors through the duration of the fair. Unlike most site-specific works, Matranga’s series is not contained within the physical parameters of Frieze, and can be viewed online over the length of the fair–a nice treat for those of us who won’t be able to make it to London this week.
The first video of the series can be seen here.
