Postponed due to the pandemic, “KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature” is now on view at the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) through October 31. This exhibition of work by the renowned Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama, explores a fascination with the natural world.

“KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature” features multiple outdoor installations, including Kusama’s signature sculptures of flora, polka-dotted forms, as well as her dizzying paintings of botanicals. Created exclusively for the NYBG, Kusama debuted four new immersive experiences for the presentation, titled Flower Obsession, Dancing Pumpkin, I Want to Fly to the Universe, and Infinity Mirrored Room — Illusion Inside the Heart.

Inspired by her intimate engagement with plants from an early age, Kusama’s concepts of obliteration, infinity, and eternity are manifested in this dynamic body of work. “KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature” is a multi-sensory experience that magnifies patterns in nature.

Celebrating the exhibition, the NYBG’s Spring Gala will take place on June 3. Proceeds support the NYBG and its education and outreach programs.
