Mikimoto’s Ginza Flagship Reopens, Designed by Hiroshi Naito

Last week, Mikimoto celebrated the reopening of its Ginza flagship. With a new façade inspired by the sea, the store is now one of the largest retail spaces for fine jewelry at over 40,000 square feet over six floors.

“I wanted to use the natural light from the sunrise to sunset coloring the Ginza-dori to recreate the beauty of the water’s surface on the façade,” said architect Hiroshi Naito. “The 40,000 small glass plates will create something that has never been seen before as it captures the transparency and depth of the light for people to wonder, marvel, and admire.”

The reopening marks a milestone for the brand and its evolution toward high jewelry, like its latest Praise to Nature collection.

Displays of classic pearls on rings, pendants, and earrings are featured on floors one through three. The fourth floor is dedicated to an admirable and extensive range of pearl strands. High jewelry as well as bridal jewelry are found on the fifth and sixth floors, with design Inspired by Yaguruma Sash Clip and walls lined with specially crafted Nishijn-ori, traditional woven Japanese textiles depicting waves and sea foam.
