Unique Design X begins its inaugural Mexican edition this week, running from February 8 to 11. Since launching in China in 2019, this nomadic platform has hosted editions in Shanghai, Paris, Moscow, Miami, and Savannah. Unique Des X seeks to foster the crossover between collectible design, skate culture, and functional art, and this new iteration is no exception. Against the backdrop of Mexico City’s internationally renowned creative ecosystem, Unique Design X showcases highly curated works from artists and designers alongside their respective galleries.
For its Mexico City edition, the boutique art and design fair has organized an extensive breadth of programming. There is a Skate-Able Object Park, designed by Stefan Brüggemann, which is professionally engineered and fully functional. Collectible designs from 18 top galleries and studios will also be on display to viewers. Livestreams will be available, featuring discussions with four ambassadors pertaining to everything from architecture to contemporary culture. And for the first time ever, the Berlin-based curator Anika Meier has arranged a truly unique physical-digital exhibition aptly entitled “The Metaverse,” in collaboration with a host of international galleries, designers, and AI studios.
The fair is being held in EXPO REFORMA, aligning with the 10th edition of Material Art Fair. With this week’s programming, Unique Design X’s mission is to unite the Mexican creative scene with international talent—for art aficionados and casual fans alike. As Unique Design X founder Morgan Morris Sans remarked, “Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur or [are] passionate about creativity,” the fair offers viewers a chance to immerse themselves “in a fresh vision of innovative ideas and aesthetics.”
