Last Tuesday, June 7, in Florence, Italy, maison Chanel unveiled its 2021/22 Métiers d’Art collection, designed under artistic director Virginie Ward. The show took place at the former 19th century train station Stazione Leopolda against a white backdrop created for the event, with walls draped in pleated curtains and camellia flowers. Among them was displayed a surreally enlarged version of the iconic Chanel flower, traditionally made by the House of Lemarié.
A black ribbon invited guests into the first room, where three dreamlike animated films produced by the REMEMBERS studio played. The ribbon then led guests into the open room where the show began. The modern and metropolitan pieces showcased the creativity of embroiderers Lesage and Atelier Montex, the goldsmith Goossens, the hatter Maison Michel, the feather worker Lemarié, the pleater Lognon, and the shoemaker Massaro.
CHANEL ambassadors Penélope Cruz, Caroline de Maigret, and Angèle were seen alongside film director Sofia Coppola; Italian actresses Coco Rebecca Edogamhe, Linda Caridi, Fotini Peluso, Alma Noce and Caterina De Angelis; DJs Peggy Gou, Wladimir Schall and Amandine de la Richardière; the band Le Feste Antonacci; the singer Angèle; and choreographer Dimitri Chamblas.
After the show, guests were led to a large room wrapped in taupe curtains and embedded with gem-colored jeweled buttons like those in the Métiers d’Art collection. The afterparty featured a show by Le Feste Antonacci and a surprise performance by Angèle, and DJ sets by Peggy Gou and Wladimir Schall.
That same morning, 240 students had been hosted in the Florence Chamber of Commerce for a masterclass hosted by Bruno Pavlovsky, president of fashion at Chanel and president of CHANEL SAS, and Tyler Brûlé, president and editorial director of Monocle magazine. The talk was attended by Penélope Cruz, Caroline de Maigret and Dimitri Chamblas.
