Dior Men Celebrates 75 Years of Sophistication and Reinvention with FW22

Today in Paris, Kim Jones presented Dior Men’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection in a regal setting produced by Villa Eugénie. Entering through a tent on Place de la Concorde, guests were surprised to find an exact replica of Pont Alexandre III mimicked in a life-size format, embracing the beauty of the city of lights. As the show began to start, set to the tune of Caroline Polachek‘s “The Gate,” we were immediately transported to Monsieur Christian Dior’s archives—but through the lens of today.

“I wanted to look at the archive, at the purity of the beginnings of the house, at its original impulse,” said Jones in his collection statement. “We looked at the initial collections and focused on the architecture, taking these elements and transforming them almost instinctively in a masculine way for today, always keeping the joie de vivre at the heart of Christian Dior’s clothing.”

With each look that emerged, a reflection of time and the designers who have carried on Dior’s legacy was seen—from feminine to masuline, from fleur to homme fleur. It is, after all, the house’s 75h anniversary, and this collection engaged with the wardrobe with that milestone in mind.

Greys and earth-tone pastels were seen tailored, featuring sophitiscated new silhouettes; asymmetrical closures on coats were knotted at the waist, and trousers were fastened with buttons at the hip; newspaper caps were complemented by newspaper bags, yet this time filled with roses; and the sleeves of double-breasted jackets coats embodied contemporary twists, with ballooning proportions from the elbow down adorned with artistic floral embellishments.

Special for the collection, as well, was a brand new collaboration with Birkenstock. Reimagined in collaboration with Thibo Denis—the same footwear designer behind Dior’s including B27 sneaker and the monogrammed Moon Boot—is a take on the brand’s classic Tokio model. Now as a slingback style with a buckled strap and a rubber toebox, the shoe embraces both brands’s heritages, with a sole blending both logos.
