Earlier this week, Versace introduced a new collection titled “La Vacanza,” designed in a collaboration between Donatella Versace and musician Dua Lipa. The first collaboration of its kind for the fashion house, it debuted with a poolside runway show with the glistening French Riviera as the backdrop—the perfect destination to embody the feelings of summer escape that inspired the spirited, sun-soaked essence of the designs.
“I love the summer and for me this collection celebrates the very best of that time of year,” said Donatella Versace. “These clothes immediately make me think of my holidays and being in the sun. Dua loves fashion, I love music—we are the perfect duo! We had such a good time designing this collection together. We felt like we were on vacation and that is exactly the spirit we want people to feel when they wear our clothes.”
Ascending the runway were looks in hues of pink, aqua, and lavender, as well as a series of black and polka-dotted garments, creating the ultimate vacation wardrobe with options to carry you from the beach to shopping, and then dinner and dancing at night. Taking cues from the house’s own Spring/Summer 1995 collection were micro silhouettes and bikinis, crisp tailoring, floaty dresses, sensual straps, and a bombshell attitude that exuded confidence—all enhanced by styling choices and accessories like butterfly jewelry, sunglasses, head scarves, strappy heels and platform sandals, and ultra-voluminous blowouts or high ponytails.
“Donatella and I bonded over our shared love of this time of year while making this collection. Digging through the archives we discovered we were drawn to a lot of the same references which was such an inspiring and fulfilling process,” said Lipa.
In a unique “see-now-buy-now” concept, “La Vacanza” launched for patrons at the time of the runway show and is available now, online and in stores. Looks you’ll find packed for our next vacation include a fitted purple mini silhouette worn by Lila Moss; a pink strappy top with pockets for bra cups, styled in monochrome with low-slung trousers, a metallic purse, and a gold medallion belt; a butterfly-laden look featuring a one-shouldered printed top and a sequined skirt that took us back to the days of Lisa Frank; a dotted ensemble featuring pedal pusher pants, a letterman-style bomber, and a baseball cap; and a black gown taking cues from a suit jacket, and styled with cage-like heels and chunky gold and gemstone jewelry.
