Yesterday in Milan, ETRO dove deep into the depths of the Mediterranean with its 2017 spring/summer menswear collection. Titled “Blue Ikat: Clouds Meet The Sea” encompassed the enigmatic pull of the ocean with its calming blues and weightlessness of the infinite.
The basket-woven leather jackets with floral silk linings accented for the first time the shoulders of Zero Kilometre models: a group of freedom seekers strutting from the streets and homes of Milan. They consisted of men in every day extraordinary forms: tattoo artists, bohemians, fathers in love, happy lawyers, biker brokers, songwriters, and poets.
Flowing with the grace of men at ease, the collection moved fluidly with small jackets, several in kimono style with swelling volumes crashing like waves over white cotton embroidered V-neck T-shirts. Sleeves were rolled to match the ankles of the loose fitting cropped pants. The style captured the simplicity of a seaside fisherman with the complexity of surprising quirks. The colors encapsulated the graceful synergy between sea and sky with monochromatic hues and pops of patterns to add life.
