Milan Men’s: Marni’s Sporty Urbanite

Sarah Bochicchio

25 June 2014

In the hands of Conseulo Castiglioni, Spring/summer 2015 is full of upbeat promise, without relinquishing contemporary utility or crisp tailoring. Clean, yet sporty, Marni has hit menswear with another round of its powerful aesthetic.

With a rich palette of burgundy, grays, marine blue, and dark, jade greens, the collection might seem heavy and autumnal. However, airy fabrics, graphic patterns, and touches of white and yellow bestow lightness and vivacity to the garments. Dramatic, though relaxed, these patterns take a spirited form in stripes and scribbled flowers.

Silhouettes are loose, yet sophisticated, balancing easy and architectural. With reversible sports blazers, oversized dusters, and zipped blousons, the collection evinces urban functionality, right down to the card cases worn as accessories. For the final touch, Marni presents a refreshingly graphic backpack and bold sandals.

Despite its classic Marni control, the collection still seems free and ready for wandering around the city. This is a collection about maintaining vibrancy and dynamism without losing your cool.
