Reality and virtual reality collided this past week in Milan, when Prada debuted its spring/summer 2018 collection. Graphic, comic book-like art by longtime collaborator James Jean was accompanied by work from Belgian artist Ollie Schrauwen, taking up the wall and floor space at Via Fogazzaro. The bending of realities continued in the new collection’s garments, as we saw hand-drawn design on several pieces, alongside Velcro Prada straps, wide pants, and popped collars on shirts. Red, black, grey, and taupe were repeated throughout the looks, seen in socks, sandals, pants, and jumpsuits. And for the show’s main contender, the coats, we saw them in all variations—elongated blazers, double-breasted pea coats, car-length coats, and those just light enough for a night out.
