To kick off our coverage of London Fashion Week, we’re sharing what we loved from Eudon Choi, Victoria Beckham, and Simone Rocha’s Spring/Summer 2019 collections.
Simone Rocha’s latest collection made its debut in London’s neo-classical Lancaster House atop a green and gold carpet—a fitting setting for the lace towers, hat flowers, and wallpaper brocade showcased throughout the runway show. Upholding the brand’s reputation for turning fashion into a fantasy, this season’s collection reinterpreted of the dress of 18th century Chinese ladies, featuring looks like silken robe-inspired coats and dresses, and wide brimmed hats with romantic, floral-embroidered veils. One of our favorite looks would have to be the white gown with the red figurative print and the eyelet lace details.
Drawing inspiration from the artist Ivan da Silva Bruhns, Eudon Choi’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection, “Manik Bagh,” is named for the Indian Modernist palace, where many of the artist’s most celebrated carpet designs are on display. Shown in front of a contemporary backdrop of concrete stairs and pillars, the line features geometric tailoring and a warm, nuanced palette similar to that of the Brazilian artist’s work, which was conceived amidst the time of the Cubism and Art Deco movements. Each look was complemented by a capsule series of bags and shoes in both leather and canvas, created in collaboration with DECKE.
In a stark white room with a black tile inlaid floor, Victoria Beckham celebrated 10 years by giving us a collection brimming with choices. Masculine or feminine; wide leg or slim; neutral or bold—the multifarious garments explore the codes created by the brand in the last decade, while maintaining a certain modern quality, which complemented a sense of ageless beauty. This season’s collection featured layered looks like a pairing of slender trousers with a knee-length skirt, striped tunic, and camel blazer, as well as more simple silhouettes like a white, floor-length tunic dress with a blue belt.
