As Gatsby fever descends upon New York City, last week saw Catherine Martin and Miuccia Prada celebrate the opening of their exhibition of costumes designed for Baz Luhrmann’s much anticipated film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s beloved novel. To mark the occasion, fashion and film worlds collided as guests threw on their Prada and Miu Miu finery to gather at a glittering PRADA New York Epicenter for a party Jay Gatsby would have surely approved.
Stars of the film Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire, and Isla Fischer mingled with fashion faces Grace Coddington and Alexa Chung to admire the 1920s style gowns, dresses, hats, shoes, and jewelry on show. An abundance of sketches, production stills, and backstage footage were also on view, accompanied by the ultimate showpiece: a 200-foot mural depicting Gatsby’s dazzling Long Island mansion parties.
The exhibition of Martin and Prada’s spectacular designs runs through May 12, before traveling to the Prada Tokyo Epicenter store from June 14 – 30 and the IFC Mall in Shanghai mid-July.
