Christmas in July: A Nespresso Holiday Preview with Tim Gunn

Sarah Bochicchio

31 July 2013

Christmas in July made its way up to New York last week for a Nespresso Holiday 2013 Preview and private dinner, hosted by Tim Gunn.

The atmosphere was warm and festive, but with a special Nespresso twist. Wintry flowers and verdure spattered the room while silver-painted antlers and golden Nespresso pods stood out like jewels against the jet-black tables.

Before dinner, Tim Gunn gave us a briefing of the different Nespresso machines. Tim stressed that the machines all consisted of the same technology to produce a great cup of coffee. On the other hand, not every coffee-lover’s kitchen is created equal. The U, for example, is perfect for a small city kitchen, whereas the larger machines have the additional ability to prepare your milk for you.

As we sat down to eat the recipes of Iron Chef winner, Marc Forgione, Nespresso again added a personal touch. The place cards had been “Nespresso-dyed” rather than tea-dyed. The first course, big eye tuna, was even paired with a Nespresso sauce.

Yet, as much as we all love an espresso for our fast-paced days, it can also be a nice way to pause and enjoy the moment. Tim talked to us about spending his (minimal) free time winding down and exploring the Met. He says that what every New Yorker needs is, “a nest, a safe haven. A place where they can close the door even if it’s just one more minute. Close the door and just feel that they can exhale and leave New York behind them in a way. [To] just be able to meditate upon their life and upon the world.”
