Phaidon has recently published Snacky Tunes: Music is the Main Ingredient, Chefs and their Music, written by creators of the Snacky Tunes podcast, twin brothers Darin and Greg Bresnitz with co-production partner Khuong Phan. The trio’s latest venture builds on the show’s community of chefs, restaurateurs, and musicians to discuss food and music, adding to their archive of conversations with more than one thousand interviewees.
Organized in alphabetical order, the book features a collection of brand-new material from 77 top chefs—all women and people of color. Each subject brings to the table special recipes, a custom playlist, and accounts of how music has shaped their careers. Nina Compton shares a recipe for jerk oxtail and sweet plantain Gnudi, accompanied by her “Straight Outta Compton” playlist; and Ignacio Mattos’s recipe for anchovy toast is paired with the song that inspired it, 53rd & 3rd by The Ramones.
Offering a playful graphic design by Omnivore and forewords by Esquire Food & Drinks editor Jeff Gordinier and Run the Jewels musician Jaime “EL-P” Meline, Snacky Tunse: Music is the Main Ingredient, Chefs and their Music features names from the culinary world like Selassie Atadika, Michael Fojtasek, Shohei Yasuda, Asma Khan, Pooja Dhingra, Alex Atala, and May Chow.
