For this week’s edition of Friday Fête, we’re sharing details from this week’s best events, including celebrations with Diesel, Lexus, and more.
Last Saturday in Milan, Diesel hosted an event to welcomed its limited-edition capsule collection—“Diesel Upcycling for 55DSL.” Renzo and Andrea Rosso greeted guests like Caroline Daur, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, and Massimo Piombini to the first major initiative of its “Diesel Upcycling For” initiative. This is the start of Diesel’s For Responsible Living strategy, which focuses on a sustainable future, welcoming 55DSL in as the first partner to create 5,055 pieces from deadstock, archive pieces, and prototypes. Presented in a “made now, buy now” format, the collection was shown in a classroom-like setting with a live performance, with seamstresses making pieces in front of an audience.
On Monday in Brooklyn, Athena Calderone hosted an intimate dinner at her Cobble Hill home to welcome her second book, Live Beautiful. The interior designer and hospitality extraordinaire welcomed special guests—like Naomi Watts, Ulla Johnson, Jenna Lyons, Wes Gordon, and Amy Astley—to dinner prepared by Chef Ignacio Mattos of Estela and delectable wine by Robert Mondavi Winery. Over glasses of Reserve Fume Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon, guests took a home tour before sitting down to the spectacular meal. Between bites and sips, Calderone and her guests swapped stories from within Live Beautiful’s pages—tales of families within their uniquely decorated homes, and what makes them all individually special.
On Wednesday night at The Bronx Museum of the Arts, artists and performers gathered to celebrate the opening of its latest installation entitled “José Parlá: It’s Yours.” Joining José Parlá were curators and directors from the museum, as well as chefs, artists, musicians, and DJs like Brian Donnelly, Henry Chalfant, and Stretch Armstrong. At the reception, musician and composer Andres Levin collaborated with Parlá on a score, performed with bata and conga drums traditional of Yoruba culture and Caribbean Rumba. Food was served by Ghetto Gastro, as well, with spreads inspired by the diverse foods of the Bronx.
Last night in New York on West 14th Street, INTERSECT BY LEXUS hosted the latest iteration of its series. To celebrate its newest installation, “Inner Light” by Dave + Gabe, Grammy-nominated musician Jhené Aiko performed her hit Triggered. While Aiko sang, guests in attendance enjoyed the 360-degree spatialized sound system with 88 LED column lights and an autonomous piano playing. After, guests mingled, enjoyed a cocktail, and thoroughly explored the stunning new light exhibition.
Also last night in New York but at the Angel Oransanz Foundation in the Lower East Side, Baxter St at CCNY held its third annual STAND WITH US event. Special guests and honorees—like Zoe Buckman, Antwaun Sargent, Ivan Forde, Baxter St President Michi Jigarjian, Mark Ronson, Honey Davenport of Ru Paul’s Drag Race, José Parlá, Tyler Mitchell, Derrick Adams, Rashid Johnson and Sheree Hovsepian, Sarah Arison, Casey Freemont, Isolde Brielmaier, Shari Loeffler, Helen Tommer, and Jasmine Wahi—spent the night sipping cocktails and dancing to music.
