Americans for the Arts, a nonprofit organization started in 1960 that seeks to advance access to arts education, hosted its annual National Arts Awards last night at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York.
The event paid tribute to five honorees: Dakota Fanning received the Bell Family Foundation Young Artist Award, B.B. King received the Isabella and Theodor Dalenson Lifetime Achievement Award, John and Mary Pappajohn received the Eli & Edyth Broad Award for Philanthropy in the Arts, Joel Shapiro received the Outstanding Contributions to the Arts Award, and Alberto Carvalho received the Arts Education Award.
Presenters including Grammy Award-winning blues musician Buddy Guy, Director of MoMA Glenn Lowry, screenwriter and director Kelly Reichardt, Arison Arts Foundation President Sarah Arison, and Director of Des Moines Art Center Jeff Flemming.
More than 350 guests came out to celebrate the honorees.
