2021 marks one century of Chanel’s iconic fragrance, Chanel No.5, the French maison is celebrating the anniversary with a special installation at Rockefeller Center in New York. From November 6—12, the outdoor experience “No.5 In the Stars” exalts the first woman-made perfume, taking visitors on a journey through its history.
The celebration begins near the center’s 5th Avenue entrance, where visitors will find a pavilion containing the experience. Here, the story of the bestselling and most successful fragrance still circulating today is told in four chapters with a narrative executed through text and video. At the end, viewers will find an installation perfect for photo opportunities, which sees a series of enlarged perfume bottles, glowing with neon and elevated on a platform.

The renowned Rockefeller ice rink plays a part in the festivities, bearing the Chanel No.5 logo at the center of the ice for the duration of “No.5 In the Stars,” accompanied by a custom LED screen bearing an immersive starscape for skaters and passersby. The experience is complete with a lounge space where visitors can find festive treats, fragrance experiences and games inspired by the perfume, and a program of special animations, which will play at 5 p.m. every evening.
