In order to give you the best of Mexico City around the fair, Whitewaller spoke with chef and restaurateur Maycoll Calderón, owner of the recently-opened Mediterranean spot Polena, and local favorites Hanky Panky and Huset.
FAVORITE SPOT TO FIND INSPIRATION
Mexico [City] is always fun, it’s a humongous city. I can always find inspiration walking around.

BEST OFF-THE-BEATEN-PATH PLACE TO SEE ART
You know the cathedral in downtown? It’s one of the hidden secrets in Mexico that even my friends don’t know about. You can visit the rooftop and all the bells. The tour is always done by someone from the cathedral, so they tell you the story. It’s not really a museum, but it’s art, it’s history, and anyone can visit.
BEST KEPT SECRET IN MEXICO CITY
There are all these hidden gems in La Roma, but right now there’s a new taqueria here that’s two blocks away from Huset, called Orinoco. It’s fun, and a place that I visit at least once a month when I want a good taco.
