The artist Alex Israel and Snap Inc.’s Snapchat have joined forces for this exhibition utilizing augmented reality (AR) technology, now on view at The Bass Museum. In Israel’s “Self-Portraits” series, visitors will see five of the artist’s works come alive in an AR experience viewable with a smartphone, revealing through the app an all-new view of the work, which transforms into an immersive, animated experience. Outside of the main exhibition, the museum’s Art Deco facade has also been converted into a sixth site-specific experience, transporting the structure into the AR world.
